Rennie Revolution
Dundee born top fashion designer, Brian Rennie, unveiled is debut collection for Basler at Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week on Thursday. Rennie accepted the position of Creative Director for the German fashion house earlier this year, and last week he presented his SS11 collection and his first ever Basler Couture Collection.
The new collection pays homage to the sensuality of the female form using colour, prints and luxurious materials and fabrics and sets a very glamorous direction for future collections. The collection was a combination of fun, flirty youth and grown-up sophistication – gold sequins beneath chocolate blazers, floral printed silk blouses, tied in a knot to reveal some midriff, could also be worn tucked neatly into wide leg trousers. There's a dress or gown to suit any occasion and crystals really apply that glamour element. The models' hair was worn loose, blow dried with relaxed ends (very K-Mid) and clear skin. It’s a collection with a strong sense of direction, but with the versatility to work for anyone – there’s something in the collection for every woman. My favourite piece? The black leather mini dress and the jade gown below.
Brian Rennie has worked at top fashion houses including legendary fashion house Escada and traditional American label Gant, as well as designing gowns for Hollywood A-listers including Halle Berry, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Jerry Hall and Catherine Zeta Jones. He says of his new venture: "It has been the most amazing experience and honour to present this collection on an international stage, to show my vision for Basler, to an audience of fashion media and celebrities. Talented and powerful women inspire my designs, two international such talents were in the audience - it's all so exciting."
Founded in 1936, Basler is a leading global fashion brand represented in over 50 countries, with flagship stores in Berlin, Paris and within Bloomingdales, New York. As with everything, time means evolution and almost 80 years on since it was established, Basler is most definitely in for a Rennie Revolution.
