Lviv Fashion Week: Syuzanna Slastion

I was looking through the catwalk shots of Lviv Fashion Week (Spring/Summer 2011) over the weekend and came across Syuzanna Slastion, an extremely talented designer. Syuzanna Slastion used a black and nude colour palette in luxurious fabrics (leather is a popular choice) with industrial twists such as studs and metal bib necklaces juxtaposed by silver hair garlands and cute black bows. An exciting mix of Park Avenue Princess meets Rock Chick, Slastion's SS11 collection has just the right amount of Kesha punk to toughen up the grown-up, polished femininity that Olivia Palermo would be proud of.
Lviv Fashion Week is one of the leading international designer showcases in Eastern Europe, showing twice a year and presenting pret-a-porter and pret-a-porter de luxe collections. The project was established in March 2008 and has seen collections from designers based in Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Croatia and France, to name a few. Among the visitors and guests of Lviv Fashion Week are designers and buyers, representatives of business and media, and fashion magazine editors - over 3500 people visit Lviv Fashion Week daily.
Offering the latest collections from designers, in runway shows and exhibition showrooms, the aim of Lviv Fashion Week is to support new designers (much like the British Fashion Council's NEWGEN) as well as introducing higher profile European designers into the Ukranian market.
If Syuzanna Slastion's SS11 collection is anything to go by, then Lviv Fashion Week is most certainly fulfilling its objective, and I for one am happy to support the project in their quest to provide a platform for their new designers - especially when it comes to Syuzanna Slastion.

Monochrome Magic at Prabal Gurung

The Prabal Gurung AW10 collection is one of my favourites.
So simple in palette, so elegant in cut, so contemporary in style. The monochrome looks are beyond fabulous and are a touch of pure class. In my daydreams, I see women with very different styles wearing Gurung's designs, from pretty Leighton Meester to the fabulous Jane Fonda to a kooky Chloe Sevigny. It takes a very talented designer to appeal to a variety of women - for Gurung to consider his designs so acutely that they speak to all ages of women from all walks of life is a sure sign of an instant "go-to" line.
There is definitely something for everyone in Prabal Gurung's latest collection; there are plenty of looks that I would wear, and I'm pretty confident that you feel the same way. And, of course, there's Olivia Palermo, style queen of NYC. Oh, and Michelle Obama, First Lady of the USA. And Demi Moore. And Kristen Stewart. And Rachel Weisz. Need I go on?

Front Roe

I first met British born Louise Roe when she hosted the Scottish Fashion Awards a couple of years ago. Louise is a delightful woman and 100% gorgeous, so it's little wonder that the majority of reader comments on the Elle website are in favour of her taking the Elle.com reigns from ice-queen Olivia Palermo in MTV's hit show, The City.
Having relocated to LA, Louise is taking the USA by storm but her debut on The City airs in the UK tonight, and I can't wait to see her in action. Louise's fashion knowledge is vast: probably something to do with all the articles, columns and blogs for national glossy magazines including MSN (Front Roe), In Style, Cosmopolitan, Glamour and Nylon, as well as presenting the highly respected Vogue.com and long established The Clothes Show. She is also a regular feature on E! Entertainment in the States where she co-hosted Live from the Oscars, among her many other appearances on the popular channel, and is host to a new show,
Plain Jane, airing on American network, CW Network, on July 28th. Throw in her guest roles on TV shows such as Britain's Next Top Model, Project Catwalk and Make Me A Supermodel, and an Honorary Fellowship at Southampton's Solent University (she lectures students twice a year) and it is easy to understand that not only has worked hard for her success, but that she deserves it too.
Ms Roe sure is fashion's golden girl, but it takes someone with much more substance to be so successful (and importantly, so well liked) both sides of the Atlantic - lucky for all of us then, that Louise ticked that box a long time ago.
