TRENDS // ECLECTIC TRENDS - GUDY HERDER - SOFT CANDY COLOR TREND . SS 2015

From our FV contributor, Gudy Herder of Eclectic Trends who is based in Barcelona working as an Interior Stylist, Trend Observer and Trainer. Her website Eclectic Trends is full of interior and trend inspirations, http://eclectictrends.com.

Here is her latest S/S 2015 color trend and you can view the entire report here.

Dear Fashion Vignette readers, it’s Gudy again from Eclectic Trends, and I like to share a pretty ‘sweet’ post with you today. For all of you who might have thought, pastel colors are dated, please see a few impressions and predictions on how pastels have evolved now. They are featured both in a more vivid way or get really chalky but pastels are definitely not disappearing but rather get slightly more ‘mature’. Would love to hear your thoughts! Warmly, Gudy

I have recently deleted my pastel color board on Pinterest with pins gathered since 2013 since I felt it was quite dated. But to my surprise pastel colors are on rise again. They were really huge a couple of years ago, and you find today two pastel trends which are a) a more velvety powder look and b) vivid pastel colors.

The main difference is two new colors which are geranium and lavender (the corresponding Pantone codes are linked) you see in this first grid(#3 and #5).

This color trend has been eventually called Soft Pop and is forecasted with similar images for S/S 2016 by other great experts such as WGSN. I do see the candy colors already for this year and believe they are still actual next summer with probably a slight move towards more vivid tones. This season they are still pretty chalky (if you search for a nice chalk paint brand, try Auténtico - the color palette is really beautiful) and often muted.

What makes this trend so interesting is the fact that these colors are applied to pretty much any creative field. I have stated on the keywords sum up nine of them but could easily add another three like flower styling, hair (beauty would the then refer to cosmetic only) and jewelry.

Pastel colors used to be applied to rather playful designs often with a touch of humor or even created with a pretty kitsch approach. But the change towards a much more sophisticated design is probably the major novelty here.

Pastel colors started already getting more ‘mature’ last year when paired with a neutral background, different shades of gray or even black (that would be a different post though).

What is really huge are pastel hair braids, wigs and anything around pastel-colored hair.

Pale pink is the one that stays fresh every single year and has been adopted to men collections too. We start seeing a transformation towards unisex colors meaning there is no specific lady or gentleman color but both gender openly share. Well, this is what we observe on some fashion shows but we might still have a lengthy path ahead of us to make that a reality. Thoughts? G, x

TRENDS // FASHION SNOOPS - S/S 2015 NY RUNWAY

The Summer of Love girl is festival-ready at Tommy Hilfiger and Anna Sui. Both designers incorporated looks for the bohemian spirited or pyschedelic hippie. Flowing chiffon maxi dresses were often printed or embroidered, and denim was a highlight with patchwork techniques. Crochet and openwork knits were used for layers.

An Army Navy look surfaces with uniforms that that embrace pockets and neutral military tones.

The Row progresses from last season's Inner Calm story into an equally sublime Zen approach, which confirms Fashion Snoops' Stop trend in Visionary. The spiritual look is reliant on solid neutrals and minimalist lines, with the exception of intricate wrapped techniques at the waist. Linen and natural fibers exude the message of purity and elongated silhouettes are favored.

    CAT LADY

Novelty prints are having a major moment right meow. So much so that it was a little difficult deciding which ones to report on. From common favorites like birds and butterflies, to the still-going-strong selection of tropical fruits (pineapples and bananas, anyone?), conversationals are a hot commodity for Spring 2015. Cats make for a relevantly quirky choice because they satisfy not only the ‘cute animal’ category, but can also merchandise well with the tropical themes that will no doubt dominate the season. Here Kitty, Kitty!

    MIXED BOHO

The bohemian look has been going strong for a several seasons now, and from what we are seeing on the runway this spring it won’t be fading away anytime soon. With influences from all over the globe and a penchant for mixing various dense and ornate motifs, the bohemian babe is no wall flower. For additional research on how to master the mixed boho trend, also see the new collections from print-mixing prosDuro Olowu and Anna Sui.

   WHEN IN ROME

While not all of your clients are likely to jive with this trend, we were quite eager to cover it. There were even several examples of it in the Resort 2015 shows, so we weren’t entirely surprised to see it pop up again for Spring, especially among the Italian designers. We are loving the variety of approaches used in presenting such iconographic imagery – from traditional black and white to modern color blocking, and even digital glitch. I could easily see this trend working well in combination with floral elements, or even as a simple novelty. For more takes on this trend also seeMarios Schwab and Fausto Puglisi.

    CUT IT OUT

Cut paper collages we’ve been seeing more and more of over the past few months. It’s a fantastic way to mix prints and show off your knowledge of other popular textile trends; think of it as the crazier version of the Block Party trend we highlighted last week. If this look is to over-the-top for your client base, simplify it by using prints with a smaller scale, and limiting the number of colors used in the overall design.

    DAISIES

Daisies, whether photographic, painted, digitally warped or presented atop an abstract texture, designers are finding fresh ways to serve up this classic vintage flower. For more examples of how runway designers are interpreting this trend, be sure to check out resort collections from Alice + Olivia and Nina Ricci in addition to the designers shown here.

    FOLK FAIRYTALE

Transitional print concept that spills over from Fall 2014, but with a lighter, more springlike color palette. One part floral, one part Ukrainian embroidery, with a dash of fairytale whimsy thrown in for good measure, these prints bring a fresh, bohemian take on a trend your Grandmother would likely adore. To keep things really authentic, make sure to include references to traditional embellishment techniques such as cross-stitch or beading.

TRENDS // FASHION SNOOPS - WOMEN'S AND MEN'S - SPRING/SUMMER 2015

Here is a preview of FASHION SNOOPS',  Spring/Summer 2015 Men's and Women's trends.  Fashion Snoop is an online forecasting trend service that reports on color, design themes, key items, details, etc., for women's, men's, kid's and accessories.  To learn more and subscribe to their services, go here to view their amazing site and check out their inspiring blog. You can also purchase a full report of each of the key trends, here .

    AVANT POP

Avant Pop combines bright hues with abstract art, and bold prints with daring patterns. The expressive theme sees eye-popping visuals fuse with surrealist imagery, and experimentation in art and design presents unlikely juxtapositions. Asymmetric silhouettes and pop art faces are accentuated by jewel embellishments for a 3-dimensional appeal, while textured fabrics, bright colors, outlandish motifs and mixed media elements create a walking art gallery.

    STREAMLINE

A minimalist approach to design is defined in Streamline, where sophisticated, simple silhouettes create an ultra-modern appeal with a relaxed, athletic influence. Parachute nylon, mesh and foamy textures are colored with soft, muted tones, and are accentuated by transparent layers, contrast trims and industrial zippers. Cotton shirting and organza add further interest, while subtle styling creates a refined expression of the slick aesthetic.

    ARTISANAL

There's an inherent sense of tradition and ritual in our Artisanal theme, as repeated geometric patterns and linear border designs create a majestic visual appeal. Rich, jewel-tones are infused with intricate florals, while lace, suede and jacquard fabrics help to evoke the elaborate nature of the trend. Texture becomes one of the most important qualities, and artisanal accents like fringing and embroidery create a luxurious look and feel.

    THRIFT SHOP

Retro inspiration shifts into a new direction with Thrift Shop, effortlessly combining classic comfort with a polished aesthetic. A vintage-hued color palette mixes with pops of kitschy color in conversational prints, while materials such as french terry, crisp poplin and faded denim feature heavily. Patterned fabrics create a craft-inspired look, and suede patchwork complements artful embroidery for a new spin to the thrifty feel of the theme.
