Marc Jacobs (left) can do no wrong in the fashion world, whether it is designing for Louis Vuitton or for his own labels. His designs are continually well received by editors (and bloggers) and his fans are always pleased with what he does for their favourite label. Marc Jacobs has an incredible talent (to still be at the top of his game after 20 years in the industry is proof of this alone) but the secret to his success is that his designs are commercially viable. He has an innate ability to design clothes that women want to wear - it's no use running a business if the goods won't sell. Jacobs intertwines high fashion with wearable designs and so his collections appeal to both industry professionals as well as women who actually go out and buy his clothes and accessories.
The Marc Jacobs AW11 collection is a fine example of why MJ works. The collection taps into a variety of AW11 trends (cocoon sleeves, polka dots, Forties glamour, masculine tailoring) so is perfect for magazine editorial shoots, but it retains the clear Marc Jacobs aesthetic (quirky, fashion-y, modern yet timeless) for his loyal customers and new customers alike.
Evidently, it's a winning combination.
