On Sunday, I went to the christening of my best friend’s baby girl, Freya Elizabeth. The ceremony was lovely and Freya was as good as gold, smiling and clapping and generally being super cute and cuddly. (Although, when her Auntie Teens held her, she screamed. I have convinced myself that it was just tiredness and not my awful self, because when I visited her on Friday, we had brilliant fun together).
Anyway, the day was lovely and the party afterwards was really nice. My other two best friends were there with their “better” halves, my handsome new husband managed to spare some time in between work jobs and my Mum and Aunt were there too. Having no brothers or sisters of my own, growing up with Nicki meant that her two brothers were around a lot (one of whom lives in London and the other is in the process of moving from Cairo to China) so it was great seeing them and catching up, and it was good seeing her parents too.
Like weddings, christenings are great for outfit spotting. There were lots of printed dresses, a few maxis, a punchy coral dress, and a lovely Armani Exchange dress. Accessories came in the form of Chanel shades, a Louis Vuitton tote and a beautiful Janine Barraclough necklace courtesy of Mama Daydreamer. Nicki and her Mum co-ordinated their lace outfits nicely - Nic in a flared, red lace dress, Colette in a figure-hugging navy number – and the star of the show, little baby Freya, wore a long white gown before changing into a shorter, frothier, tulle dress so she could show off her crawling moves on the dancefloor.
As for Aunty Teens? I chose a white dress with black polka dots from online fashion store Apricot, accessorised with a patent shoulder bag, peep-toe stacked heels with bow detail, Nicole Farhi sunglasses and a black grosgrain ribbon in place of a belt.
What I love about this dress is its versatility; it’s great for church, for lunch, or afternoon tea - generally for any day time social event. It would also look marvellous with an enormous hat for a day at the races. An added bonus is that, at £34*, the dress is a bargain. However, a bargain often comes at another price, and this dress requires a lot of consideration to your under garments. The dress is very light (a slight breeze will result in a Marilyn Monroe style flash) and teamed with the white fabric, a decent pair of pants is a must! The good news? With the right foundations, this dress is a wardrobe staple. The bad news? It comes in a variety of colours… so you will probably want one of each!
