I’m not really a festival gal. I mean, I want to be, but I’ve never been to one because of my disgust at all the mud, trash, dirty loos and general flinging of plastic cups filled with God knows what. I love listening to music and going to gigs; I’m as open to hearing new bands and enjoying their raw sound as I am to singing along to old favourites, but I don’t want to risk a cup of pale ale to the head while doing so.
T in the Park was on at the weekend, and these backstage shots of the stars having their hair “did” got me thinking about festivals. The media images of the celebrities who attend Glastonbury, etc, are glamorous and generally quite clean, save for the strategically splattered mud on a box fresh Hunter.
This is how I would do festivals: wandering around in my maxi dress and heart shaped sunglasses, with a braid in my naturally tonged tresses, humming “Ivy and Gold” by Bombay Bicycle Club as I pass my pear cider to my equally fresh festival friend. I’ve picked out my favourite looks from Aquascutum for a chic hippy look, and I’ve also put together a high street outfit that I think represents stylish festival dressing.
If I could wear these clothes and not have to worry about the hem while visiting the little ladies’ room, then perhaps festivals would be for me. Until then, I’ll just try and create my own mini festival by inviting my friends over to sit in a circle in the garden, drinking Pimms and making daisy chains, with my iPhone plugged into the speakers.
Ah, bliss.
