Versace for H&M

It was revealed this week that one of the most iconic designers in the fashion industry, Versace, is the latest designer to work with high street giant, H&M on their famous designer collaborations following previous collaborations with Jimmy Choo, Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, Commes des Garcons and most recently, Lanvin. Come November 17th, Versace fans will have the opportunity to own a piece of Donatella Versace's very own designs at H&M prices, with the Autumn 2011 collection going on sale in 300 stores worldwide and online. The range will include collections for women and men as well as some select pieces for the home (a first for H&M collaborations), and will be followed by a pre-spring collection for H&M which will be exclusively available to purchase online.
Donatella Versace says of the design project: “I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.”
Versace was founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace and the label soon became synonymous with glamour, sex and luxury. Dresses were provocative, daring and fun, while the cut was impeccable. Versace revolutionised fashion and arguably cemented the career of supermodels including Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. The result was one of high fashion status, covetable designs and an undeniable reputation of incredible glitz and glamour.
Following her brother's death, Donatella Versace continued his work as Creative Director of Versace, and in the last few seasons has really developed the label in her own right. Donatella is the epitome of the Versace woman and perhaps this is why her latest collections have been so brilliant - she lives and breathes the Versace lifestyle and pours this into every single piece of each collection.
Creative Advisor for H&M, Margareta van den Bosch, says of the latest collaboration, “Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and their collection for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant – everything Versace stands for. Donatella Versace is sharing with us iconic designs from the archives. This is such a celebratory collaboration and is perfect for the party season.”
The Versace for H&M womenswear collection will focus on dresses that feature studded leather and colourful prints, while accessories will include sky-high heels (what else?) and costume jewellery. The menswear collection is dominated by sharp tailoring: the perfect tuxedo completed with belts and jewellery. The first ever designer/H&M homeware collection will include a bedspread, reminding us once again that anything touched by the Versace hand exudes sex appeal.
